JR Sakuranomiya Station
JR Sakuranomiya Station is located two stations away from Osaka Station. True to its name, it is famous as a cherry blossom spot (Sakura means cherry blossom), and during cherry blossom season, you can enjoy views of cherry blossom trees along the Okawa River from the train window between Sakuranomiya Station and the neighboring Temma Station.
In addition to cherry blossoms along the river, it has good access to the cherry blossom tunnel at the Japan Mint and Osaka Castle Park, bustling with many flower-viewing visitors during cherry blossom season.
If you’re heading towards the cherry blossom trees along the Okawa River or the Japan Mint, it’s closer to exit from the west gate.
Note: Elevator is only on the east side
For those with mobility issues, wheelchair users, or those with strollers, you may want to use the elevator, but please note that it’s only available on the east side.
Cherry Blossom Viewing Information around Sakuranomiya Station
There are several cherry blossom viewing spots accessible from Sakuranomiya Station, all with numerous cherry trees, allowing you to enjoy a leisurely stroll for an extended period.
Along the Okawa River
From Kema Sakuranomiya Park to other spots along both banks of the Okawa River, there are cherry trees everywhere. Whichever side you walk on, you’ll find people enjoying the cherry blossoms with picnic blankets.
The eastern side has a wider park area, so you may find seating even during crowded times.
Near Cascade Garden on the western side, there are benches and stairs where, if available, you can sit and enjoy cherry blossoms even without a picnic blanket.
Though it’s a long distance, the cherry blossom trees continue to line up until Temmabashi Park.
Note
As of April 2024, the Aqua Liner OAP Port for water buses is closed.
Exceptionally, it seems that an Aqua Mini Cruise departing from and returning to OAP Port will be operated from Friday, April 12th to Sunday, April 14th, 2024.
Reservations can be made through the Aqua Liner website.
Former Sakuranomiya Public Hall
The oldest designated cultural property in Osaka is also beautiful, with large cherry trees in its garden. Sometimes weddings are held there, accompanied by elegant music, creating a pleasant atmosphere.
Cherry Blossom Tunnel at the Japan Mint
Reservations via the internet (first-come, first-served basis) are required for the cherry blossom tunnel in 2024. The event period is from Friday, April 5th to Thursday, April 11th, 2024, for seven days, and there are available slots depending on the date and time. (Reservations can be made on the Japan Mint’s website). During the event period, only entry from the south gate is allowed (the main gate is for exit only).
Access to Osaka Castle Park
After enjoying the cherry blossoms along the Okawa River, you can walk to Osaka Castle Park via the bridge called “Kyobashi.”
Convenience Stores, Food Stalls, and Stands
Between Sakuranomiya Station and the Okawa River, there is a Lawson convenience store.
Moreover, near the Imperial Hotel OAP, there are bakeries, McDonald’s, convenience stores, etc., making it ideal for buying food and drinks.
Food Stalls and Stands
There are a few food stalls around Sakuranomiya Station:
- Near Genpachi Bridge
- Around the former Sakuranomiya Public Hall
However, there are more food stalls and stands in places like Temmabashi Park.
That concludes the cherry blossom viewing information around Sakuranomiya Station. I hope this helps those who are planning a trip or a leisurely stroll and wish to have information in advance.
